Welcome! My name is Brandy Rae, and I am a writer/editor in the beautiful state of Arizona.
My love of writing and storytelling started at a young age. In addition to growing up with a rich cultural oral story history, I started singing at the age of five and dabbled with writing song lyrics throughout my youth. Also, when I was six years old, my mother bought me my first typewriter. It was love at first sight.
My official writing career started my junior year of high school when I accepted a news editor position with my school newspaper. Honestly, I never imagined I would make a career out of writing until later. My goal was to be a musician or a social worker. I have an empathetic disposition, and my own struggles with adversity made me a voice for those individuals who have none. Luckily, I learned I can use my voice in a more effective way.
Overall, I have been blessed in finding my writer’s voice.
I have a bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in Journalism, and a master’s degree in English. I spent almost a decade teaching (face-to-face and online) writing composition and rhetoric, English language learning and intercultural communications, academic research, business communications, and university studies for both public and private universities.
I have also had the pleasure of working in the media since 2004. I worked for both liberal and conservative media as an Editorial Board member, an intern, and reporter. I actually left teaching in 2015 to permanently pursue the more media-style aspects of writing and became the Editor-in-chief for a leading online news source in my adopted hometown, San Angelo, Texas. I filled that position proudly until my move back to my home state of Arizona in 2017. I also did plenty of freelance writing, primarily web content creation, since 2014.
With that being said, I am a diverse writer who can communicate in a variety of genres and formats. I have published articles, academic essays, poems, and short stories, and I have helped (and continue to do so) several individuals and businesses meet their own academic, writing, and communication goals in both the public and private sector.
Whether I am teaching writing at a university, working in the media, writing creative fiction, or helping businesses with their communication needs and overhauling their websites, I am at home in writing. When I’m not writing, I’m creating my own life story with my husband of almost 23 years, my beautiful kids and grandkids, and my wolfdog Zeus.
